With the debut of the 18 EXIST, DAIWA introduced the monocoque body that made a sensational impact.
The "D-SYSTEM for 18-22" is a high-rigidity, high-precision drag unit designed to match this concept.
Equipped with dedicated tools, it’s extremely easy to install, compatible with the latest models since the 18 EXIST, and features corrosion resistance ideal for saltwater use.

Supporting DAIWA’s LC-ABS (Long Cast ABS) spools, this bright red D-SYSTEM provides linear and highly responsive performance, adapting even to slight torque variations from 1LB and setting a new drag standard.

Regarding Installation

This product is a custom part specifically designed with reel drag performance as a priority.
Note that the spool may not achieve perfectly parallel winding during retrieval.

For any uneven winding, adjust by adding or removing washers.
The absence of washers beneath the bearing does not affect functionality.

In principle, fix the D-SYSTEM in the upper hole position.
If the rotor nut interferes, secure it in the lower hole position.

The sister product, D-SYSTEM for 18 Series, is also compatible with the above reels; however, for models like the 20 LUVIAS and 21 PRESSO, a 1mm washer needs to be installed after removing the rotor.
With the D-SYSTEM 20 Series, no need for disassembly or adding washers—just fix it using the lower hole position on the D-SYSTEM body.
Only if uneven winding persists after washer reduction, remove the rotor and add a 0.5-1mm washer on top of the pinion bearing.


Installation Example

(Pattern A)

For reels like the 18 EXIST, 21 LUVIAS Airity, and 22 EXIST that can secure the D-SYSTEM in the upper hole position





Before installation, mark the position of the spool’s rear end and the rotor.
To avoid rotor rotation before D-SYSTEM installation completion, check spool alignment afterward to easily adjust any uneven winding.
Remove the existing drag unit entirely, leaving only the shaft, and attach the D-SYSTEM unit.
Fix in the upper hole with the provided set screw and tool (image shows maintenance tool usage).
For fine-tuning, start with a 0.5mm washer beneath the bearing, adjusting further as needed.

To modify drag sound intensity, adjust by widening or narrowing the spring tip.
For a significantly louder sound, you can reuse the original spring.

Apply IOS-02 to the bearings for routine maintenance.
Apply IOS Drag Grease to the spool drag washers to maximize the D-SYSTEM's performance.


(Pattern B)

For reels like the 20 LUVIAS or 21 PRESSO, or when the D-SYSTEM interferes with the rotor nut in the upper hole position



Before installation, mark the spool's rear end and rotor positions.
To avoid rotor rotation before D-SYSTEM installation completion, check spool alignment afterward to easily adjust any uneven winding.
In principle, no need to add a 1mm washer on top of the pinion gear bearing after rotor disassembly.
Remove the EXISTing drag unit entirely, leaving only the shaft, and attach the D-SYSTEM unit.
Fix in the lower hole with the provided set screw and tool (image shows maintenance tool usage).
Generally, no adjustment washers are recommended.

If uneven winding persists even after washer reduction, remove the rotor and add the 0.5mm washer included on top of the pinion bearing.
Generally, adding washers is unnecessary.
