Item Description

[VARIVAS] Avani Eging [Max Power PE] X8

Our finest and strongest flagship model!

VARIVAS’s “high-break-resistant method” is used to knit Max Power with a dense weave that provides stable strength and a silky smooth surface with little irregularity and an extremely low stretch factor.
In addition to those features, VARIVAS's special line coating greatly reduces friction with the rod's guide and allows the angler to cast over a long distance.
This line will withstand constant jerking and maintain high performance even under harsh circumstances.
The “Sinking Bite Marker” allows the angler to see the movement of the line, so that when the squid tugs at the lure they are able to adjust their fishing method in response.

What Makes the Line That Supports Yudai Ito's Impressive Catch Rate, the ‘Avani Eging Max Power PE X8,’ So Effective?

Yudai Ito

Yudai Ito, who deeply loves fishing for targets that can be caught with lures, from black bass to area trout and saltwater games, has a profoundly intricate fishing theory.
When it comes to eging lines, Yudai has a particularly critical “perspective,” and the line he uses is the ‘Avani Eging Max Power PE X8.’
Although there are many 8-strand PE lines for saltwater on the market, Yudai uses only Avani Eging Max Power PE X8 for eging, and there is a clear reason for that.

The Importance of Line in Eging

The egi (squid jig) that gently sinks to the bottom is harder to detect than plugs or metal jigs that fall straight down.
Yudai describes the sensitivity required in eging as similar to “Iaido” (the art of drawing and cutting with a sword).
The squid might punch the egi momentarily!
Or it might grab the egi and let go immediately!
Yudai translates these subtle sensations into a successful catch through his senses.

“In other words, eging is all about sensitivity.
Concentration to not miss the slightest discomfort is essential.
When I catch a squid exactly as I imagined, the image of Iaido somehow comes to mind.
I’ve never practiced Iaido, though (laughs).”
Detecting slight discomfort with heightened senses and translating it into concrete information.
Yudai believes that the line is the most crucial key when performing this series of tasks.
Everything happening underwater is communicated to the angler through the line.
To Yudai, the eging line is a vital partner that conveys a wealth of information, like the “string” in a tin can telephone.
Therefore, there can be no compromise.

Three Absolute Conditions Yudai Requires in an Eging Line

1. Casting Distance

Using casting distance as a weapon to conquer unreachable points directly leads to results.
“But there’s another reason I prioritize casting distance.
When using a line that achieves great casting distance, the accuracy of the cast naturally improves.
A line that flies far with a light throw also enhances accuracy.
It’s easy to adjust something with great flying potential, but the reverse is not true.”
The conditions for a line that achieves great casting distance include “smoothness & good glide” and “uniform thickness.”

2. Smoothness & Good Glide

The braiding density is extraordinarily fine.
I don’t know any other 8-strand PE that is so meticulously braided.
Additionally, the super fluorine coating gives the line surface exceptional fineness.
Its smoothness and good glide make it indispensable in delicate eging games.

3. Uniform Thickness

In the manufacturing process, PE lines can have variations in thickness, but I have never felt any inconsistency in the thickness of Avani Eging Max Power PE X8.
When controlling the egi during the fall after a full cast, if the line’s thickness is even slightly uneven, the feel of the line unspooling from the reel gets disrupted.
Unnecessary noise mixes into the sensation, hindering the fishing experience.
This is a crucial point for me.
Furthermore, the smoothness, good glide, and uniform thickness also contribute to ease of knotting.
“I often use the FG knot when setting up my leader system, and the uniform tightening from end to end feels satisfying and even.”

How to Use ‘Avani Eging Max Power PE X8’

The ‘Avani Eging Max Power PE X8’ comes in three sizes: #0.6, #0.8, and #1, but Yudai frequently uses #0.6 and #0.8.
“I choose the size based on the water depth of the field.
In shallow areas, I choose #0.8 to slow the fall speed.
In this case, the leader is fluorocarbon #2.5.
On the other hand, in areas with depth right from the shore, I choose 0.6号 for better water-cutting ability.
In this case, the leader is fluorocarbon #2.
I use #1 when targeting large squid in spring or in weedy fields, but my main sizes are #0.6 and #0.8.
I have never felt insecure about the strength of #0.6 and #0.8 because they are incredibly strong.”

Summary

Eging is a game with many hits during the first fall.
Instead of hitting it at the end after shaking it off, you make a beautiful drop right after a full cast, ride the tide as imagined, and catch it with the first jerk!
Such patterns are common.
There aren’t many chances.
That’s why concentration during the first fall is crucial.
The difference in results is vast between a line that helps with concentration and a line that hinders it.”
