Item Description

[VARIVAS] SUPER TROUT Advance Doule Cross PE X8 Light Green

1.4 - 1.6 times tougher than the predecessor!
An upgraded model of the “Double Cross PE”, our staple PE for river trout fishing!

The ”Casting distance” “Strength” “Sensitivity” of the PE lines + The “High Density” “Stiffness” of the Ester lines.
The Double Cross PE is created by combining and weaving these two materials.

[A trouble-free experience]
With its ester material, Double Cross PE has a “stiffness” attribute that other PE lines do not have, which prevents tangles from forming around guides and veils.
Works very well in river bait finesse fishing.
Though trout fishing requires some line slack, the line prevents any potential trouble during casting, retrieving, and picking up.

[High density *relative density of 1.12]
Strong against winds and sinks well. It is easier to target the desired area since the lure does not float as much.

[High Strength]
With the same feel as before, the strength has been increased by approximately 1.4 to 1.6 times compared to conventional Double Cross PE.

[A combination of visibility and camouflage]
Marking colors: Light Green+Green
(Repeating pattern of: 150cm of Light Green (Base color)+50cm width Green markings)

Why Shigehiro Iida Continues to Use ‘Super Trout Advance Double Cross PE’

Knowing the characteristics of the line you use and pursuing its details will undoubtedly increase the number of fish you encounter on a fishing trip.
Therefore, it's not about the lure or the rod but focusing entirely on the line.
We asked Shigehiro Iida, an expert in stream fishing who continues to use Super Trout Advance Double Cross PE, about the features of the new Double Cross PE and tips on leveling up with PE lines.

Benefits of the Unique “Stiffness” and “High Specific Gravity” of Double Cross PE

There are several reasons why Iida continues to use Double Cross PE, but he particularly likes its unique stiffness.
This stiffness not only improves overall operability but also contributes to the straightness of the line during casting. Additionally, this stiffness makes feathering with the index finger much easier. “I really like the feel of Double Cross PE on my fingers. The tactile sensation on the finger allows me to detect more information during feathering, making it easier to finely adjust the line release,” says Iida. He also appreciates the high specific gravity, which allows the line to sink together with the lure upon water contact, enabling a more natural drift of the lure without being pulled by the surface current, especially advantageous when adding action while drifting upstream.

Why Double Cross PE is a Marking Line

One of the significant features of Double Cross PE is its dark color marking.
According to Iida, this provides even higher visibility.
“Even in situations with mixed sunlight and shade or when fishing under subtle light conditions like overcast skies, the marking on the line allows some part of the line to visually stand out,” says Iida.
Double Cross PE comes in two colors: light green and hi-vis orange, each with dark color marking.
This dual-color system ensures high visibility regardless of the situation, which is one of the reasons stream experts have been using Double Cross PE for years.

The Real Benefits of Visible Lines According to Stream Experts

So, what are the true benefits of a “visible” line?
When asked why he emphasizes line visibility, Iida responds, “To easily confirm the feeling of the cast.”
Even if you land the lure where you aim, there are times when the cast doesn't feel right.
A high-visibility line helps confirm how the lure is flying, allowing you to detect subtle discrepancies in the cast and make adjustments for a smoother cast.

Differentiating Light Green and Hi-Vis Orange

Many anglers choose line colors based on preference, but Iida uses both the light green and hi-vis orange colors of Double Cross PE depending on the situation.
“Depending on the weather and the light conditions of the river, the color that's easier to see changes.
Orange for bright conditions and green for dimmer situations,” says Iida.
For instance, when fishing in shaded rivers even on sunny days or in darker spots, he chooses green.
He prepares reels (or spare spools) with both colors before a trip and selects the best color based on the light conditions of the valley.

Shigehiro Iida's Best Line System

In stream lure fishing with PE lines, leaders are an integral element.
Here is Iida's line system.
He mainly chooses 0.6 size for the main line Double Cross PE and attaches about 90cm of Super Trout Advance Extreme Shock Leader 8lb.
He uses a nylon leader instead of fluorocarbon because “the soft nylon line brings the lure's movement closer to my preference.”
The choice of an 8lb leader aims to improve stiffness and increase lure recovery rates when tangled around branches across the river.
Although an 8lb nylon leader is an uncommon choice, fishing in the same environment as an expert offers many insights.
If you want to feel what Iida pursues, try combining Double Cross PE 0.6 size with an 8lb nylon leader (without a snap).
